Columbus RHP Tyler Cloyd earns Minor League Player of the Week honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that Triple-A Columbus RHP TYLER CLOYD has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the period of July 28-August 3. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Cloyd, 27, tossed the International League's first individual 9.0-inning no-hitter since the last Columbus pitcher to pull the trick - Justin Germano; July 26, 2011 at Syracuse - blanking the visiting Louisville Bats in a 13-0 Clippers win on Wednesday at Huntington Park. Cloyd, who threw just 88 pitches, carried a perfect game into the top of the 9th, but hit the leadoff batter with a pitch to start the frame. The 7th no-hitter in Columbus Clippers history marked Cloyd's International League-leading 3rd complete game of the season. He also shares the league lead with a pair of complete-game shutouts and ranks 2nd with 140.2 innings. Cloyd was also named International League Pitcher of the Week for his effort.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander has gone 9-6 with a 4.03 ERA (63 ER/140.2 IP) in a team-high 22 starts for the Clippers, and ranks 11th in the International League with 94 strikeouts. Cloyd re-signed with the Indians this December after the club claimed him from the Philadelphia Phillies the day of the 2013 American League Wild Card Game, and later designated him for assignment when David Murphy was signed on November 25. Cloyd spent 4 different stints with the Phillies in 2013 and owns a career Major League record of 4-0 with a 5.98 ERA (62 ER/93.1 IP) in 19 appearances/17 starts.
