Hawkins headlines Arizona Fall League contingent

Outfielder missed time with thumb and foot injuries

MINNEAPOLIS -- Courtney Hawkins, the organization's No. 9 prospect, per MLB.com, and 13th pick in the 2012 Draft, sits at the top of the list of the White Sox Arizona Fall League representatives announced on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old outfielder will be joined by right-handed pitchers Brandon Brennan, Robinson Leyer, Peter Tago and J.B. Wendelken and infielders Keon Barnum, Nick Delmonico and Jake Peter. Hawkins has hit .243 for Double-A Birmingham with nine homers, 41 RBIs, 19 doubles and 100 strikeouts in 300 at-bats. Hawkins was sidelined by thumb and foot issues, while Delmonico missed time because of personal off-the-field issue, giving these talented players a chance to pick up extra at-bats for the Glendale Desert Dogs.

"It provides an opportunity not only to get certain high-level prospects more repetitions but also fill in when there has been injury issues," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. "Courtney has missed some time. Delmonico has missed some time.

"Barnum and Brennan, too. This gives them a chance to catch up a little bit on repetitions against some high-level competition and a great learning environment. We are looking forward to it."

Delmonico has a .264 average with four homers, 33 RBIs and 23 doubles between stops at Birmingham and Class A Kannapolis. Barnum has eight homers and 64 RBIs during his second season for Class A Winston-Salem, while Peter has 56 RBIs and 23 stolen bases for the Dash.
