Coy on content, SDinHD, game day entertainment

Padres senior director of game day presentation Matt Coy checked in to Padres Social Hour on Thursday to discuss the big year his team has had in providing in-game entertainment for fans at Petco Park over this past season.

Coy, who is in the first year as senior director, certainly hit a home run with the content that was provided on the SDinHD board this season -- something that most certainly must have been a factor in drawing 2,459,742 fans to Petco Park this seson.

"We're pleased with how everything has turned out -- the crew, management. Everybody's happy," Coy said. "It's been a great year. A lot of new things we tried out this year really worked and we're certainly looking forward to a bunch of new things next year, too."

Coy, who leads a team of crew members in the Petco Park 'control room' in the Jerry Coleman Broadcast Center, noted that putting together in-game content and making the 'big board' work is certainly a labor of love and a product of hard work.

"We've got a lot of crew members ... It's pretty much a year-round operation. We may take off a little time around Christmas, but as soon as the end of the season comes, we're already going to be looking forward to next year. We'll brainstorm some ideas to try and top this year's entertainment."

While 2015 has been a great year for the SDinHD board, it's difficult to pick a highlight for Coy. Between Justin Upton's "Upton Funk," Matt Kemp as Lionel Richie in "All Night Long" or the insane amalgamation of Shia LaBouf rallying the Padres with a barrage of colors and bass, there's already so much to choose from when it came to in-game entertainment in 2015. But Coy's favorite on-board moment?

"Maybe the best on-board moment was when we photoshopped Matt Duffy's headshot to include his 35-pound cat, Skeeter. We put him in a great leisure suit ... And that's just him with his little Skeeter on the SDinHD board."

To see Matt Duffy's "totally 80's" headshot and to hear more about Coy's experience in putting together in-game entertainment for the Padres this past season, be sure to watch the entire interview in the video above.
