Cubs recall right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis

Right-handed pitcher Randy Wells has been designated for assignment

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa.  In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Randy Wells has been designated for assignment.

Dolis is available for the Cubs this afternoon against the New York Mets at Wrigley Field.

A member of Chicago’s Opening Day roster, Dolis went 2-4 with four saves and a 5.68 ERA (16 ER/25.1 IP) in 23 relief appearances for the Cubs during his first big league stint this season.  He began the campaign by posting a 2.79 ERA (6 ER/19.1 IP) in his first 16 outings through May 9, but posted a 15.00 ERA (10 ER/6.0 IP) in his last seven outings and was optioned to Iowa on May 28.  Overall, Dolis has limited major league foes to a .236 batting average (21-for-89), including a .075 batting average (3-for-40) to left-handed batters.

Dolis, 24, went 0-1 with three saves and a 2.92 ERA (4 ER/12.1 IP) in 11 relief appearances with Iowa this season.  He struck out 13 and walked only four batters in 12.1 innings pitched.

Wells is 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA (17 ER/28.2 IP) in 12 major league outings (four starts) this season and is 2-2 with a 7.71 ERA (26 ER/30.1 IP) in six starts with Iowa.

Chicago’s 40-man roster stands at 39 players.
