Hill launches homer with pink bat

PHOENIX -- The D-backs wore their colors proud on against the Padres on Sunday, the perfect mixture of Sedona Red, Sonora sand, and black. There was also plenty of pink.

Players and on-field personnel wore the symbolic pink ribbon on their uniforms along with pink wrist bands and undershirts at Chase Field. The game also featured a pink-stitched Rawlings baseball as the official game ball, and several players on both teams, including Arizona's Mark Trumbo, Paul Goldschmidt, Nick Ahmed, and David Peralta used pink bats. In fact, D-backs second baseman Aaron Hill hit a solo home run to give Arizona a 1-0 lead in the second inning using a pink bat.

"Just seeing the players in pink, to me that says, 'I support you' and that means a lot," said Barbara Nicholl, a breast cancer survivor and the 2015 D-backs' honorary bat girl. "They support this cause and that's important."

Commemorative base jewels and dugout lineup cards were also pink Sunday. Items from Mother's Day games will be auctioned exclusively on MLB.com to benefit the fight against breast cancer.

"It's just special," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "We are able to raise money for the research. It's a neat thing to be able to do. "
