D-backs acquire Brandon Jacobs from the White Sox and A.J. Schugel from the Angels as Players to be Named Later from December 10 Three-Team Trade
Arizona also acquires Todd Glaesmann from the Rays to complete December 3 three-team trade
PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@dbacks) have acquired outfielder Brandon Jacobs from the Chicago White Sox and right-handed pitcher A.J. Schugel (@schug_knight) from the Los Angeles Angels as the players to be named later in the three-team trade on December 10, and outfielder Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) from the Tampa Bay Rays as part of a three-team trade on December 3, according to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.
Glaesmann, 23, batted .240 (117-for-487) with 28 doubles, 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 132 games with Double-A Montgomery last season. He was named the Rays' Minor League Player of the Year in 2012 after hitting .285 (140-for-491) with 25 doubles, 21 home runs and 75 RBI in 127 games with Single-A Bowling Green and Single-A Charlotte.
In 5 Minor League seasons in the Rays' organization (2009-13), Glaesmann hit .252 (373-for-1,479) with 80 doubles, 40 home runs and 176 RBI in 400 games. Glaesman, who entered 2013 rated by Baseball America as the Best Power Hitter in the Rays' farm system, was selected by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.
Jacobs, 23, combined to hit .244 (111-for-455) with 33 doubles, 13 home runs and 66 RBI in 127 games with Single-A Salem and Double-A Portland in the Boston Red Sox system and Double-A Birmingham in the White Sox organization. He was acquired by Chicago-AL on July 12 in exchange for left-handed pitcher Matt Thornton.
Jacobs, who was selected in the 10th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, is a career .262 (418-for-1,594) hitter with 115 doubles, 49 home runs and 238 RBI over 5 Minor League seasons in the Red Sox (2009-13) and White Sox (2013) organizations. He entered the 2013 season rated by MLB.com as the 11th-best prospect in the Boston system.
Schugel, 24, made 19 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake in 2013, going 4-6 with a 7.05 ERA (70 ER in 89.1 IP). In 2012, he led the Texas League with a 2.89 ERA (45 ER in 140.1 IP) in 27 starts and was named to the league's mid- and postseason All-Star Teams.
Schugel, who was an infielder at Central Arizona College, is 17-21 with 6 saves and a 4.02 ERA (162 ER in 362.2 IP) in 92 games (62 starts) in the Angels' farm system (2010-13). He was selected by the Angels in the 25th round of the 2010 draft.
Schugel's father, Jeff, is a longtime scout and was recently hired by the Braves as a Major League scout and special assistant to general manager Frank Wren.
