Montero undergoes surgery for finger infection

PHOENIX -- D-backs catcher Miguel Montero underwent surgery over the weekend on his left index finger to clean up an infection.

Dr. Don Sheridan, the D-backs' hand specialist, performed the surgery, and Montero is expected to remain at the hospital for observation for a few days.

On Friday, Montero and D-backs officials helped dedicate a brand new playground at the Ronald McDonald House of Phoenix, which is located just a few miles from Chase Field.

Montero hit .230 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs this past season. He missed several games last spring with an infection in his right thumb.
