D-backs claim Santos Rodriguez from White Sox

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) claimed left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez off waivers from the Chicago White Sox, according to D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.

Rodriguez, 25, combined to go 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA (26 ER in 47.2 IP) and 61 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances with Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte in 2013. He limited opponents to a .204 average (34-for-167) on the season and averaged 11.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pounder has gone 11-10 with 21 saves, a 3.63 ERA (125 ER in 309.2 IP) and 368 strikeouts in 195 games (7 starts) in the Atlanta Braves (2007-08) and White Sox (2009-13) organizations. Rodriguez was originally signed as a Minor League free agent by the Braves on Sept. 28, 2006, and traded to the White Sox in a six-player deal on Dec. 5, 2008.

The D-backs' 40-man roster is now at 39.
