D-backs' offense surges vs. Dodgers

Arizona gets homers from Ahmed, Tomas, tallies six stolen bases

PHOENIX -- The D-backs hit a pair of home runs, stole a lot of bases and scored in a multitude of ways as they mounted a pair of comebacks in Monday's 10-6 win over the Dodgers.

It took two-run home runs by Nick Ahmed and Yasmany Tomas to get the D-backs into the game. Then, it was timely hitting and aggressiveness on the basepaths that allowed the D-backs to rally back again and take control with a four-run eighth inning.

"As an offense, we're going out there and just trying to put as many runs on the board as we can," D-backs center fielder A.J. Pollock said. "We did some damage on some mistakes and I feel like that's kind of our staple -- not flashy, we're just going to take what they give us."

Tomas' two-run shot in the fifth tied the game at 4 after the D-backs initially spotted the Dodgers four runs early. After the Dodgers went back ahead in the seventh, the D-backs tied it at 6 in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run triple by David Peralta with two outs.

The D-backs swiped five of their six bases in the seventh and eighth innings, twice executing double-steals.

Welington Castillo continued swinging a hot bat, going 2-for-4 and also providing the go-ahead run on an RBI double that made it 7-6 in the eighth. D-backs manager Chip Hale has said numerous times that providing the catcher with consistent at-bats is making the difference.

"He's got strength, he's got power, and in our ballpark, he has the ability to hit it out anywhere," Hale said. "We expect him to hit."

After Castillo doubled, he moved to third on a Chris Owings infield single and scored on a throwing error by Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez. The D-backs padded the lead, stretching it to 10-6 when Paul Goldschmidt delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded.

Over the last two days, the D-backs have scored 17 runs. The 10 runs were the most they had scored in a game since scoring 14 on May 12, and all 10 came against the Dodgers' bullpen after starter Mike Bolsinger exited with suspected food poisoning.

"Any time you get the offense to score 10 runs, obviously it's good moving forward," Pollock said.

Peralta said even when the team fell behind early and then the Dodgers took the lead back after the D-backs' first comeback, the team's attitude didn't change.

"We will never give up. We're the kind of team with fire," Peralta said. "We just have a good energy in the dugout. It doesn't matter what's the lead, if we're losing, winning, we're just going to keep fighting, fighting, fighting. That's what we do."
