Jennings returns to GM role with Marlins
Led club to a 55-69 finish after coming down from front office in May
MIAMI -- Any speculation that Dan Jennings will not return as general manager of the Marlins can be put to rest. After serving as the team's manager since mid-May, the 55-year-old has agreed to rejoin the front office.
The decision was expected, since Jennings is under contract through 2018.
On Tuesday, the Marlins held a news conference at Marlins Park and announced Jennings would no longer manage the club. At that time, they made it clear that Jennings was headed back to the front office, once again assuming the title of general manager.
Jennings did not attend the event. In recent days, he has had further discussions with upper management about his transition back to general manager. Now, he's ready to move forward and be a part of the decision-making process in putting together the roster.
The Marlins completed a disappointing season at 71-91, finishing in third place in the National League East. Jennings replaced Mike Redmond on May 18, and the club went 55-69 with him in the dugout.
On Tuesday, president of baseman operations Michael Hill noted Jennings was taking a few days to "decompress."
"We've asked him to come back and be part of our front office and work with us in improving the roster," Hill said at the news conference.
