Straily optioned to make room for Colon

HOUSTON -- What was made certain Friday night turned official on Saturday when the A's optioned right-hander Dan Straily to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the 25-man roster for Bartolo Colon, who made his season debut against the Astros.

On the 40-man roster, Colon took the spot of right-hander Will Harris, who was claimed off waivers by the D-backs just three days after the A's had claimed him.

Straily struck out a career-high 11 and allowed just two runs in 6 2/3 innings in Houston on Friday night, numbers that couldn't prevent the inevitable demotion, which the A's had in the works for weeks before Colon's return.

Saturday marked Colon's first big league start since Aug. 18. Four days later, he was hit with a 50-game suspension after testing positive for testosterone.
