Espinosa may not earn September callup

KANSAS CITY -- The Nationals are expected to promote their September callups in a little over a week and there is a possibility second baseman Danny Espinosa won't be one of them.

Entering Friday's action, Espinosa is 49-for-268 [.202] with two home runs, 17 RBIs and 89 strikeouts for Triple-A Syracuse.

"It remains to be seen," manager Davey Johnson said. "He is not making the adjustments we were hoping he would make. He is a tremendous talent. That decision will be made probably in the middle of the week."

General manager Mike Rizzo will make the final decision if Espinosa will be back in the big leagues this year. If he does, Espinosa most likely will not play every day. Anthony Rendon will remain the everyday second baseman.
