Ortiz again comes through in the Bronx

NEW YORK -- It was a mammoth blast that David Ortiz hit against Luis Severino's 96-mph heat, giving the slugger yet another signature moment in the Bronx during the Red Sox's 2-1 win over the Yankees.

Ortiz's towering shot to right in the top of the fourth inning was projected by Statcast™ to land 435 feet with an exit velocity of 109 mph and a launch angle of 28 degrees.

The fact that it came against Severino, who is the Yankees' top prospect, was not lost on Ortiz.

"That young kid, he's got good stuff, man," Ortiz said. "I think he's going to be pretty good. He has a good fastball. He's got that cutter, the changeup. I think at the beginning of the game, he was kind of missing location a little bit. Other than that, his stuff is very explosive. Very good."

Severino became Ortiz's latest victim in the rivalry. According to Elias, Ortiz has homered off 34 different Yankees pitchers in his career, more than any other player in history.

"We don't leave New York without David probably going deep one time," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Just put a beautiful swing on the pitch. There's no question we'll see Severino a lot in years to come, and that's a good looking young pitcher."

The homer was the 46th Ortiz has hit against the Yankees. Ortiz hit 16 bombs at the old Yankee Stadium, and Wednesday's homer was his 12th at the new model that opened in 2009.

"It's a good field to hit at," said Ortiz. "Of course, if you've got power, you can definitely get away with a lot of homers here."
