Wright reaches halfway point in rehab assignment

NEW YORK -- No longer the only Mets star down on the farm, David Wright continued his Florida rehab assignment with a statistically fruitless effort for Class A Advanced St. Lucie on Saturday.

But look past Wright's line and the recovering third baseman reached a milestone of sorts. In finishing 0-for-3 with a walk, Wright pushed past the halfway mark of the 30 plate appearance goal he deemed necessary for his return from spinal stenosis.

Wright now has 16 plate appearances and 14 at-bats for St. Lucie, and projects to return to the Mets as early as next weekend in Colorado. Saturday he completed seven innings at third base, committing an error in a game started by rehabbing lefty Steven Matz.

Sidelined since April with spinal stenosis, Wright was hitting .333 with one home run in eight games for the Mets. Barring setbacks, he'll return for the first potential stretch run in Queens since 2008.
