Flores, Duda can't crack All-Star leaderboard

SAN DIEGO -- Mets first baseman Lucas Duda and shortstop Wilmer Flores may be pacing their team at the plate early this season, but neither is making much of a push on the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot. Neither Duda nor Flores ranks among the top five at his position on the second National League balloting update, which Major League Baseball released Tuesday.

David Wright, who has appeared in only eight games this season due to hamstring and back issues, is the Mets' lone representative on the balloting update, ranking fifth at third base. And even Wright stands more than 1.5 million votes behind leader Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals.

The Mets' best All-Star candidates all reside on the pitching staff, from closer Jeurys Familia to starters Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom. But fans do not vote for pitchers.

As far as position players go, Duda has been by far the Mets' most productive to date, batting .298 with nine home runs over his first 50 games. But voting leaders Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers and Paul Goldschmidt of the D-backs are both enjoying even more impressive seasons at the plate thus far.

Though Flores has received significant criticism for his glove this season, he is tied for the NL shortstop lead in home runs, ranking fourth in RBIs. But Flores has a long way to go to catch voting leader Jhonny Peralta of the Cardinals, who has more than twice as many tallies as even the fifth-ranked player on the ballot.
