Wright takes full BP, eyes start of rehab games

Mets' captain scheduled to have five straight days of workouts for first time since May

MIAMI -- David Wright's timeline is starting to come into focus. Wright took full batting practice Tuesday in the first of five consecutive days of rigorous baseball workouts, his first such stretch since being diagnosed with spinal stenosis in May. If all goes well, Wright could debut in Minor League rehab games as soon as early next week.

"At this point, I just want to get in the lineup," Wright said. "I want to be part of the fun."

Tuesday's batting-practice session was his third on a big league field since shifting his rehab from California to the East Coast last week. He hit a ball over the left-center-field fence at Marlins Park and a one-hopper off the wall in right-center, coming away encouraged.

Wright plans to travel to the team's rehab complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Wednesday to continue his rehab, though on some level the Mets might prefer him to stick around. Entering Tuesday's play, they were 22-9 (.710) with their captain in attendance as a player or spectator, and 34-41 (.453) without him.
