Defensive improvement a must for White Sox
CHICAGO -- The White Sox are still determining whether they are legitimate contenders for a playoff spot, but manager Robin Ventura knows this much already: They won't be unless they can improve their fielding.
Heading into Monday night's game with Detroit, the White Sox were 14th in the American League in fielding percentage.
"You've got to get better," Ventura said. "The defense has to work for you. Defensively, we need to get better. That's it. You just have to find ways to make plays.
"Any time you make miscues on defense, you're just making pitchers work more. You're not going to hold up if you do that because it's too hard to win in this league if you're doing that."
