Jennings has knee surgery; return date uncertain

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday to clean up some inflammation of tissue.

Dr. Steven Singleton performed the surgery in Vail, Colo.

"I'm happy for Desmond, I think we all are," said Rays manager Kevin Cash. "He's been battling and frustrated by an injury that there was some uncertainty on. Hopefully we found some clarity. The doctors went in there, scoped it out, cleaned some stuff out and hopefully it won't be too long of a rehab."

As of now, there is no timetable for Jennings' return, but Cash said the best-case scenario is that the procedure would sideline him for at least 3-4 weeks.

Before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 3 with left knee bursitis, Jennings had appeared in 18 games for the Rays, batting .222 (14-for-63) with two RBIs while also recording five stolen bases.
