Detroit set vs. Bucs on schedule despite flood

PITTSBURGH -- The Tigers and Pirates are scheduled to take their Interleague series to Comerica Park on Wednesday night. For now, the game is on, despite record-setting heavy rains that have left several area freeways still flooded.

Tigers spokesperson Ron Colangelo said in an email Tuesday afternoon that there was no flooding at Comerica Park or the surrounding streets.

Thus, while getting people to and from the ballpark could be an issue, playing the game will not.

The Tigers are in a position where they're trying to play every game they can as scheduled. They'll face day-night doubleheaders on back-to-back Saturdays, leaving them playing 24 games in a 23-day stretch beginning next week. If the teams can't play Wednesday, they'll have to play a day-night doubleheader Thursday or find a common off-day late in the year during a playoff race.

Fans in some areas, especially those north of the city, might have to plan on alternate routes and potentially surface streets.
