Detroit Tigers promote Oliver Arias to director of the Dominican Academy

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers on Friday announced they have promoted Oliver Arias to director of the team's Dominican Academy. Arias, who most recently served as coordinator of the club's Dominican Academy, will oversee the daily operations of the Dominican Academy as well as scouting of Cuban players in the Dominican Republic.

Arias is in his ninth season in the Tigers organization, having joined the club in 2006 as coordinator of the Dominican Academy.

Arias was drafted by Seattle in the 50^th round of the 2002 MLB Draft. He went on to play three seasons in the Mariners organization. In 2006, Arias served as a player/coach for Seattle's rookie level team.

Arias currently resides in Santo Domingo, DR with his wife, Elizabeth.
