Travis earns AL Rookie honors for April
Second baseman hit .325 with six homers in opening month for Toronto
Devon Travis, who homered in his Major League debut on Opening Day, was named the American League's Rookie of the Month on Monday. Toronto's second baseman batted .325 with a .393 on-base percentage and a .625 slugging mark in April.
Travis, acquired from the Tigers in an offseason deal, delivered six home runs and 19 RBIs in his first month with the Blue Jays. And he was especially dominant at home. Travis batted .438 and slugged .813 at Rogers Centre in April, and he had 14 hits and nine RBIs for Toronto in that span.

Travis led AL rookies in several offensive statistics, including runs scored (17), homers, RBIs, batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and doubles (six).
Travis had five games with more than one RBI in April, and he scored multiple runs four times. He walked twice on Opening Day and then went 13 games before he walked again, but he steadily produced for the Blue Jays. Travis' batting average never dipped below .296 after any game last month.
Travis, a former 13th-round selection in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, hit .298 with 10 home runs for Double-A Erie last season in Detroit's organization and skipped Triple-A entirely with Toronto. He was the first player to hit a homer in his debut on Opening Day since Jason Heyward in 2009.
