Travis out a week after setback in Triple-A

MINNEAPOLIS -- Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis will sit out for the next week after he suffered a setback while playing on a rehab assignment for Triple-A Buffalo.

Travis has been out since May 16 with inflammation in his left shoulder. He appeared in a game for Buffalo on Friday night, but the discomfort resurfaced and the rookie infielder was scratched from the lineup this weekend.

Toronto now intends to take a cautious approach and Travis will travel to the club's Minor League complex in Dunedin, Fla., to receive treatment and gradually resume baseball activities.

"Hasn't resolved yet, going to take some more time and he's going to Florida for treatment and strengthening," Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said in a statement.

Travis originally had been scheduled to join the Blue Jays for Monday night's game in Washington. There is no timetable for his return, but he'll likely require close to two weeks before returning to the Majors.

The 24-year-old Travis is hitting .271 with seven homers and 26 RBIs in 36 games this season. He was named the American League Rookie of the Month for April, but his numbers dipped in May when he attempted to play through the shoulder ailment.
