D-backs enjoy benefit of DH

ANAHEIM -- Making out the lineup is a little easier for D-backs manager Chip Hale for these two games against the Angels since he will be able to utilize a designated hitter.

"It's nice for us. We're always trying to get another hitter in there," Hale said. "We're always having to juggle our outfielders between the four guys. This enables me to get everybody in there."

Hale usually has to leave one of his outfielders -- Ender Inciarte, A.J. Pollock, Yasmany Tomas, or David Peralta -- out of the lineup.

On Monday, he was able to use Tomas as his DH, and Tuesday he plans to utilize the DH slot to give first baseman Paul Goldschmidt a bit of a breather.

Goldschmidt does not like to take days off, having started all but on game this season.

"I think he's fine with it," Hale said of Goldschmidt as the DH. "He understands that he needs a rest sometimes but his bat will still be in there."
