D-backs' Gibson wins early challenge against Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- D-backs manager Kirk Gibson successfully challenged a play at first base in the first inning of Friday night's series opener with the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers' Hanley Ramirez was called safe at first on a 6-4-3 double-play attempt, but a review showed Didi Gregorius' throw to Mark Trumbo at first beat Ramirez and the call was overturned.

The challenge likely saved a run, as the Dodgers tallied three consecutive hits after the play was overturned, but the inning ended with the game scoreless.
