Dierker to be Guest on Astroline Tomorrow (Jan. 25)

HOUSTON, TX — Former Astros pitcher and current Community Outreach Executive Larry Dierker will be this week’s guest on the club’s popular Astroline call-in radio show at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Hosted by Hall of Fame Broadcaster Milo Hamilton, Astroline is broadcast live from Buffalo Wild Wings at 510 Gray Street.
 
The show is open to the public and airs on the club’s flagship station, KTRH 740 AM. Listeners can call the show with questions at 713-212-5874. With more than 40 years of service to the Astros organization, Dierker has served as a player, manager, front office member and broadcaster. He won 137 games over 13 seasons on the mound with Houston from 1964-1976, which is third-best in team history. A two-time All-Star, Dierker also pitched the fifth no-hitter in franchise history on July 9, 1976. Following 18 seasons as an Astros broadcaster, he became the sixth manager in Major League history to win a division title in his first season and went on to lead the Astros to four division titles during his five seasons as manager (1997-2001). On May 19, 2002, the Astros retired the franchise icon’s No. 49 jersey at Minute Maid Park. In his current role with Houston, Dierker spearheads Astros Alumni efforts and represents the club at various events throughout the season.
 
Hamilton began his Hall of Fame radio career as a disc jockey on the Armed Forces Radio Network during Thanksgiving week in 1945. The 2012 season will be his 28th with the Astros and his 59th year broadcasting Major League Baseball.
 
Tomorrow’s Astroline is the ninth of 18 scheduled shows during its five-month run leading into the 2012 baseball season. The program will move to Florida in late February to the ESPN Club restaurant, located at the Disney Boardwalk, after the Astros have reported to Spring Training in Kissimmee, FL. The first of four broadcasts from Florida will be on Feb. 29.
