Dodgers on losing end of pickoff-play challenge

Kemp ruled out at first base; review determines call on field stands

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Dodgers lost a manager's review in the second inning of Wednesday night's 2-1 loss to the Giants when Matt Kemp was picked off first base by Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong.

Kemp, who had walked with one out, had the back of his hand tagged by first baseman Brandon Belt. Kemp came up wagging his finger back and forth at first-base umpire Mike Muchlinski, which brought out Mattingly for the challenge.

After a review that lasted four minutes and 25 seconds, it was ruled that video evidence was inconclusive and the original call stands.

"The play at first, our guys thought he was safe," said Mattingly. "At that point, you've got to take a shot."
