Crawford scratched with tight quad

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford was out of Thursday's starting lineup vs. the D-backs as a precautionary measure with a tight right quadriceps. Los Angeles won the game, 4-3.

Manager Don Mattingly said he would also hold Crawford out of Friday's game, but didn't believe the injury would sideline Crawford longer than that. Crawford participated in non-running workouts Thursday.

Mattingly also said that catcher A.J. Ellis was sent home with the flu.

Crawford said the leg tightened up as he scored from first base on Yasiel Puig's double in the third inning of the Cactus League opener against Arizona on Wednesday.

Crawford spent a month on the disabled list last year with a strained left hamstring.
