Dodgers place super-sub Hairston on DL

Dodgers place super-sub Hairston on DL

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers placed infielder Jerry Hairston on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a strained left hamstring and recalled infielder Justin Sellers from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Hairston, a super sub batting .315, was injured on Sunday in Chicago while legging out an infield hit. His placement is retroactive to May 7.

"It would be a foolish thing to go out there and blow it out and miss two months," said Hairston. "I blew out the right one and was out three or four weeks. This won't take that long.

"The toughest thing is the stop and go and turning. Coming out of the [batter's] box. So many variables put the hamstring at risk. Better to be safe now. I don't want to deal with this the whole year. That wouldn't be good for anybody."

Sellers, who made the Opening Day roster, was optioned last Friday to make room for the signing of Bobby Abreu.
