Dodgers put righty Greinke between Ryu and Kershaw

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers switched their pitching rotation for the current series with the D-backs, moving Hyun-Jin Ryu from Sunday to Saturday and Zack Greinke from Saturday to Sunday.

Manager Don Mattingly said the alignment is meant to separate left-handers Ryu and Clayton Kershaw for the two series with the Giants, next weekend in San Francisco and Sept. 22-24 in Los Angeles.

As part of that strategy, the Dodgers started rookie Carlos Frias on Wednesday, and he pitched six scoreless innings. But Mattingly said there are no plans to give Frias another start, in part because his live arm is needed in the bullpen.

"He could be valuable in different scenarios," said Mattingly, who has been searching for reliable setup combinations over the past month.

Mattingly said left-handed reliever Paco Rodriguez, currently on the disabled list with a teres major muscle strain near his left shoulder, had a setback after his Tuesday bullpen session and is running out of time to be ready to help the club down the stretch.
