Hanley gets break in opener against Phillies

PHILADELPHIA -- Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was not in Friday's lineup in favor of rookie Erisbel Arruebarrena -- the Cuban made his Major League debut after joining the club on May 21 from Double-A Chattanooga where he hit .208 with a home run in 25 games -- but unlike the situation in center field, this was more a night off for the veteran shortstop.

The same situation existed at third base where Chone Figgins got the start over Justin Turner.

"It's just a day for Hanley," manager Don Mattingly said. "As I found out last time with JT, that maybe too many days in a row gets him in trouble. Just keep Figgy in the mix at third. We trust both Figgy and JT over there at third."

Ramirez is hitting .251, which is 49 points below his career average. However, he did have a good series when the Phillies visited Chavez Ravine in late April, when Ramirez went 5-for-16 with a double and a home run despite the fact the Phillies took 3-of-4 in the set.
