Mattingly loses challenge on play at first base

Replay review confirms out call on Puig's grounder to D-backs shortstop

PHOENIX -- Dodgers manager Don Mattingly lost his challenge Saturday night after using it to contest that Yasiel Puig beat out a throw to first base from D-backs shortstop Chris Owings in the sixth inning with Arizona leading, 9-7.

After a one-minute, 28-second review of the play by an umpire in New York City, crew chief Jeff Kellogg relayed that the call was confirmed for the final out of the inning.

The Dodgers had rallied for five runs in the sixth, highlighted by Carl Crawford's three-run home run to cut the D-backs' lead to 9-5 and knock Arizona starter Chase Anderson out of the game.
