Pedroia making push on All-Star ballot
BOSTON -- As the Red Sox are starting to shake out of an early-season slump, second baseman Dustin Pedroia has gained some ground on the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot.
The second baseman has also moved up one spot to fourth place in the latest round of American League All-Star balloting, which was released Monday.
Pedroia has 726,606 votes and trails Jose Altuve (Astros), Omar Infante (Royals) and Jason Kipnis (Indians).
Pedroia is vying for his fifth All-Star selection and second in the last three years.
Pablo Sandoval, in his first year with the Red Sox, is currently third at the hot corner with 620,193 votes. Sandoval, a three-time All-Star, trails Mike Moustakas (Royals) and Josh Donaldson (Blue Jays).
Slugger David Ortiz, vying for his 10th All-Star appearance, is hoping to recover from a slow start at the plate and is fourth at designated hitter with 690,977 votes. Kendrys Morales (Royals), Nelson Cruz and Alex Rodriguez are ahead of Ortiz.
Hanley Ramirez, who has regained his stroke in recent days, is 11th among outfielders.
