Longoria exits after HBP on left wrist

ST. PETERSBURG -- Of all the places Evan Longoria could have been hit, Taylor Hill's pitch chose the wrong spot.

Longoria left the Rays' 6-1 victory over the Nationals in the fifth inning after a pitch from Hill ran in and hit him in the left wrist, the same one that kept him out of the lineup for three games last week because of soreness.

"It's just unfortunate that it hit up in that same area," said Longoria, whose X-rays came back negative. "I wouldn't rule out the possibility of playing tomorrow. There's nothing seriously wrong there, just a matter of seeing how I feel when I wake up. If I can play, I'm going to play."

After being hit with the pitch, Longoria made his way to first base and tried to make his case to stay in the ballgame until the end of the inning, but was eventually replaced by Nick Franklin.

"I got to first base, we were talking, and he said, 'You know, I'll probably go ice it after the inning,' and I said 'Let's just come out now and go ice it now,' so that's what we did," Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

Before leaving the contest, Longoria was 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI off a sacrifice fly.
