CarGo singles, scores in second rehab start
Outfielder targeting return to Rockies at end of week
DENVER -- Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Tuesday that the Rockies were "shooting for Friday" for outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to make his much-anticipated return from surgery on his left index finger.
In his second rehab game with Triple-A Colorado Springs Tuesday evening, Gonzalez reinforced his manager's confidence by singling and scoring a run one day after finishing his first rehab game with a three-run home run and a double.
Gonzalez singled in the first inning of Tuesday's game on a soft grounder to third and scored on Jason Pridie's three-run homer with two outs. Gonzalez also flied out to right field and grounded out to first before Evan Frey hit for him to start the eighth.
In two rehab games, Gonzalez is 3-for-6 while playing 12 innings in the field.
Gonzalez will likely start one more game at Triple-A before flying back to Colorado during the Rockies' off-day on Thursday.
Gonzalez has been on the disabled list since June 4 and underwent surgery to have a benign tumor removed from his left index finger on June 10. The two-time All-Star is batting .255 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs in 52 games this season.
