First-base platoon impressing Roenicke with D

MILWAUKEE -- While the first-base platoon of Mark Reynolds and Lyle Overbay has done adequately at the plate, manager Ron Roenicke says he's been impressed with their defense.

"Both of them have made plays to save our pitching staff, to save the infielders and to save a lot of runs," Roenicke said. "Whether you're driving them in or saving them, I don't think there's a difference."

Reynolds has gotten about two-thirds of the playing time at first and was batting .197 with five home runs and eight RBIs in 17 games entering Saturday's action. Overbay was batting .267 with one home run and four RBIs in 15 games.

"I think the combination of both of them being veterans, being good guys, fit in well with what we're trying to accomplish, and it's meant a lot," Roenicke said.
