Flores rests ankle while Turner starts at third

NEW YORK -- Wilmer Flores was not in the Mets' starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Tigers.

Manager Terry Collins said it's just a day off for the young third baseman, who is dealing with a lingering ankle injury he suffered two weeks ago. Justin Turner started at third base.

Collins said Flores' ankle is fine, but he wanted to give him a breather. The Mets want to try Flores at second base one day this week, and Collins said he just wants to make sure his ankle isn't hurting him.

Flores is batting .283 with a home run and 11 RBIs in 15 games with the Mets this season.

"I just think that one day today might help him out a little bit," Collins said. "I'm not sure you'll see 100 percent for the rest of this year, just because playing third base, the starting and the stopping takes its toll."
