Forsythe staying positive despite slump

PHOENIX -- It has been a difficult month offensively for Padres infielder Logan Forsythe, who went into Friday's game against the D-backs hitting .105 in 46 plate appearances in July.

But he's not about to let his struggles affect him mentally.

"You've got to look at the positives," Forsythe said. "I'm taking good swings in the game, and I am still having good at-bats."

Forsythe has appeared in 29 games at second base, most of which were when Jedd Gyorko was still on the disabled list with a strained groin. But since Gyorko returned from the disabled list on July 12, Forsythe has only had seven at-bats.

"It's just going to take me a little longer to get out of it," Forsythe said of his slump.

But he's determined to do so, and because he can play shortstop, third base and even some outfield if need be, he could get some starts moving forward as manager Bud Black rests players during the second half.

Either way, Forsythe isn't going to get too wrapped up in his statistics. He'll focus more on the process.

"At first it can be [frustrating], but you have to understand that the results aren't going to happen in one day," he said.
