Freddie gets support from Fredi amid slump vs. Fish

MIAMI -- As Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was brushing his teeth in preparation to travel to Marlins Park for Saturday's game, his son, Alex, perused Twitter and read aloud a tweet that said Freddie Freeman had gone 0-for-28 with 12 strikeouts against the Marlins this season.

"I was like, 'Can I have a coffee before you drop that one on me?'" Gonzalez said.

Freeman broke out of the slump in the third inning Saturday, getting the Braves on the board with a two-run double.

Unlike Freeman, Gonzalez does not like to outwardly show affection. But given what his first baseman has experienced this year against the Marlins, the manager decided it was best to show the first baseman some love a couple of hours before Saturday's game.

"He'll be fine, I gave him a hug today," Gonzalez said. "I don't like him giving me hugs and all that stuff; I think it's a little crazy. But I gave him a hug today and said, 'It's going to be all right. If you don't get 'em today, you'll get 'em tomorrow."
