Rainout creates open slot in Reds' rotation
Iglesias may be a option for Wednesday's matchup with Braves
CHICAGO -- Due to Friday's rainout vs. the White Sox and Saturday's rescheduled doubleheader, the Reds will have an opening in their rotation the next time around.
For Wednesday's start vs. the Braves, Cincinnati has listed the starting pitcher as "TBA."
"I'm sure we'll be calling somebody up," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "We're not going to be pitching anybody on three days' rest."
Price would not reveal the club's plan for who would make that start.
However, it lines up perfectly to have Raisel Iglesias recalled from Triple-A Louisville, because his next turn to pitch just happens to fall on Wednesday. Iglesias allowed three earned runs and six hits over five innings on Friday in a loss vs. Rochester.
In four starts for Louisville, Iglesias is 1-2 with a 3.80 ERA. In 21 1/3 innings, he has given up 21 hits and seven walks, while striking out 11.
Iglesias began the season with the Reds and made his Major League debut on April 12 vs. the Cardinals. The 25-year-old gave up three earned runs and five hits over five innings, with two walks and four strikeouts, in a no-decision before St. Louis secured a 7-5 win in 11 innings. Iglesias retired 11 of his first 12 batters in that game.
