Soto wins White Sox Heart and Hustle Award

CHICAGO -- Catcher Geovany Soto was named the White Sox's recipient of the Heart and Hustle award, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) announced on Tuesday.

The award honors one active player from each club who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and tradition of the game, both on and off the field. It is the only award in Major League Baseball voted on by former players.

"A true gamer that comes to play hard every day," said former White Sox catcher Mark Salas in a statement.

Soto is in his first season with the White Sox, used primarily as a backup catcher.

Committees selected players based on their passion, desire and work ethic demonstrated. Soto will be recognized prior to an upcoming home game this season.

As the season draws to a close, fans, all alumni, and active players will vote to select the final winner from the 30 team winners. The final winner will be announced on Nov. 10 at the 16th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City.

Previous overall winners include Mike Trout [2012], Dustin Pedroia [2013] and Josh Harrison [2014].
