During select dates in July and August, Detroit Tigers players made appearances along with representatives from CBS Radio stations at various Metro Detroit ABC Warehouse locations. During each visit, a Tigers player signed autographs and promoted the "Weekend of Giving" at Comerica Park which was held September 5-7. CBS Radio, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund and the Tigers collected equipment at Comerica Park at Gate A during the Weekend of Giving. Fans donated over 2,500 pieces of new or gently used baseball and softball equipment such as gloves, cleats, bats, balls and catcher's gear. The program is celebrated in a pregame ceremony with Tigers outfielder Rajai Davis representing the Baseball Tomorrow Fund presenting a $5,000 grant to Courageous, Inc. and the Legends League to purchase new baseball and softball equipment. In August 2013, Verlander announced a commitment of $1 million to launch Wins for Warriors, a program designed to provide mental health support for veterans and their families with a focus on the Detroit and Richmond/Norfolk communities. During its first grant cycle, Wins for Warriors awarded $267,000 in grant funding to two best-in-class organizations: Give an Hour and The Mission Continues. In honor of Hall of Famer and 15-time All-Star Roberto Clemente, who died on New Year's Eve 1972 during a humanitarian mission to assist earthquake victims in Nicaragua, Major League Baseball and all 30 Clubs annually celebrate Roberto Clemente Day. This initiative pays tribute to Clemente's lasting legacy and recognizes players who best represent the game of Baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
