Pagan remains out with troublesome back

PHOENIX -- Giants center fielder Angel Pagan was out of the lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second straight game Tuesday with back stiffness.

"He's not able to play," Giants manager Bruce Bochy stated flatly.

Bochy indicated that if there was any way Pagan could perform, San Francisco's switch-hitting leadoff batter would be on the field. With 12 games remaining entering Tuesday and the Giants in hot pursuit of a postseason berth, there's no point in gradually nursing Pagan back to health before he plays again.

"I don't see any point in resting a guy if he's ready to play," Bochy said.

Juan Perez replaced Pagan in center field, batting eighth, while Gregor Blanco filled the vacancy in the leadoff spot.
