Posey could return to catch series finale in Denver

DENVER -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that catcher Buster Posey has a "good chance" of rejoining the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Bochy confirmed that Posey will catch instead of playing first base, where he occasionally starts to keep his bat in the lineup and avoid the physical rigors of catching. This indicated that Posey truly is recovering from the nerve irritation in his lower back that kept him out of the lineup for the first two games of the Colorado series.

Additionally, Bochy said that sidelined second baseman Marco Scutaro is expected to rest for a week after recently receiving an injection that was meant to accelerate the healing process in his ailing back. Scutaro is expected to continue his regimen at the Giants' training complex in Scottsdale, Ariz.
