Gorzelanny begins rehab assignment at Class A

MILWAUKEE -- Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny, who has been on the 15-day disabled list all season following offseason shoulder surgery, began a rehab assignment Wednesday at Class A Brevard County.

"We've got 30 days to make a decision," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said before Wednesday's game. "He still hasn't got his velocity up."

Gorzelanny, 31, was 3-6 with a 3.90 ERA last season in 43 games, including 10 starts. He was 2-5 with a 4.81 ERA as a starter.

His last appearance of the season came in relief on Sept. 2 when he faced one batter before leaving the game with left shoulder tightness.

Last year, the only other left-hander in the Brewers bullpen was Michael Gonzalez. This season, the Brewers have left-handers Will Smith, who has allowed just one earned run in 18 1/3 innings for an 0.49 ERA, and Zach Duke, 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA.
