Gyorko, Decker homer for Triple-A El Paso

Right-handed pitcher Colin Rea has been selected to the United States team for the Futures Game portion of the All-Star Game and Jedd Gyorko and Cody Decker homered Wednesday night for Triple-A El Paso.

Rea, who leads the Texas League with a 1.06 earned run average. He is 2-2 and has allowed 44 hits and 11 walks with 55 strikeouts in 68 innings.

In three starts since returning from the disabled list ­- he missed a month due to back spasms ­ Rea has allowed no runs on seven hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in 16 innings. On Tuesday, Rea shut out the Texas League¹s top hitting team on three hits over seven inning.

The Futures Game, matching top prospects from U.S. and World teams, will be played July 12.

Decker, who played third base, was 3-for-4 with a double and his 14th homer for two RBIs and three runs scored while raising his batting average to .283. The homer was Decker's franchise-record 147th in his seventh season in the Padres minor league system.

Gyorko (.286) hit his fourth homer since being optioned to the Chihuahuas on June 10.

Right fielder Rymer Liriano (.282) was 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored as El Paso scored their sixth win in their last seven games to improve to 37-35.

Right-handed starter Daniel McCutchen (5.37 earned run average) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings.

Right-hander Leonel Campos (3.93 ERA) allowed two walks with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Right-hander Jay Jackson (1-2, 2.23) allowed two hits and a walk with a strikeout in two innings to get the win. With closer Marcos Mateo being promoted to the Padres, right-hander Cory Mazzoni closed for the Chihuahuas and got his second save despite allowing two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in the ninth.

El Paso lost right-handed relievers Mateo and Kevin Quackenbush to the Padres while right-handed reliever Nick Vincent was optioned to El Paso by the Padres.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (32-40): CORPUS CHRISTI 8, Missions 3 - 3B Duanel Jones (.261) was 3-for-4 with a double and his second homer for two RBIs. LF Yeison Asencio (.311) was 2-for-4. Asencio is 8-for-14 with a homer in his last three games. Starting RHP Bryan Rodriguez (3-9, 4.62 ERA) allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings. RHP Stephen Kohlscheen (3.38) allowed a run on three hits and two walks in two innings. LHP Brandon Alger (4.50) allowed two hits with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (31-39): The Storm is off until Thursday for the California League's All-Star break.

LOW SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (32-36): The TinCaps are off until Thursday for the Midwest League All-Star break.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI CITY (4-3): DUST DEVILS 6, Vancouver 3 - Starting RHP Jose Castillo (1-0, 2.70 ERA) allowed a run on three hits with five strikeouts over five innings. RHP Louis Distasio struck out two in a perfect inning. LF Henry Charles (.175) hit a two-run homer. 2B Luis Urias was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. 3B Carlos Belen (.276) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (1-3): BREWERS 9, Padres 2 - RHP Manuel Gonzalez (0-1) allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in six innings. LF Benji Gonzalez (.455) had a double and a triple in four at-bats for two runs scored. 1B Jonas Lantigua and RF Jhonathan Pena (.412) were each 2-for-4.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (11-11): DIAMONDBACKS 6, Padres 5 (10 innings) - 1B Emmanuel Arias (.269) was 3-for-4 with his second homer and two runs scored. LF Luis Asuncion (.222) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Starting RHP Dani Lopez (.245 ERA) came out after two perfect innings. LHP Joel Garcia (4.05) allowed a run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. RHP Cristian Machuca (4.05) allowed a walk with two strikeouts in three scoreless innings. RHP Adonis Diaz (0-1, 2.08) allowed a run on a hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning to suffer the loss.
