Aaron has partial hip-replacement surgery
Procedure performed after Hall of Famer slipped on some ice in Atlanta
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Hank Aaron received a partial left hip replacement on Friday after slipping on some ice in earlier in the day in Atlanta.
The Braves announced Aaron will likely need 6-8 weeks to recover from the surgical procedure, which was performed in Atlanta by Dr. Scott Gillogly.
"The entire Atlanta Braves organization has Hank in our thoughts and prayers, and [wishes] him a complete and speedy recovery," Braves president John Schuerholz said.
Aaron celebrated his 80th birthday on Feb. 5. The Braves are planning to honor the legendary slugger during their home opener on April 8, which will be the 40th anniversary of the day he hit his historic 715th home run and became baseball's home-run king.
