Out again, Hanley to be evaluated in Boston

MIAMI -- Hanley Ramirez had hoped to be back in the lineup by Wednesday, but the soreness in his left foot has persisted enough to keep him out at least one more game.

In fact, the left fielder will undergo further evaluation from the medical staff when the Red Sox return to Boston on Thursday.

Ramirez has missed four straight games after fouling a ball off his foot in Detroit on Friday night.

"He's sore," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "He's going to be examined by Dr. [Peter] Asnis tomorrow when we get back. It will be determined in that exam whether there's imaging that's needed. But unfortunately he's not available to us today."

With Ramirez out, Farrell is able to play all three of his young outfielders at the same time. For the second straight game, Jackie Bradley Jr. played left, while Mookie Betts was in center and Rusney Castillo was in right.

Once Ramirez returns, Farrell might have to get creative in order to keep everyone in the mix. Bradley has played himself into the equation by finally putting together some momentum with the bat.

"It will be a balancing act, no doubt," said Farrell. "We'll look at matchups. The difficult thing by taking a look at matchups is Jackie's handling left-handers. So that kind of compounds what you're trying to get the matchups to look like.

"But the most important thing is that he, particularly, is swinging the bat better than he's done. We'll keep them all with regular at-bats as much as possible."
