Hard-throwing Hughes goes to O's at No. 68

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles used their final Day 1 selection on pitching, selecting high school righty Jonathan Hughes with the 68th overall pick in the 2015 Draft on Monday.

The Draft continues on Tuesday with Rounds 3-10. The MLB.com preview show begins at 12:30 p.m. ET, with exclusive coverage of Rounds 3-10 beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Hughes, like the Orioles' previous pick, Ryan Mountcastle, was ranked outside the top 100 Draft prospects, coming in at No. 188 on MLBPipeline.com's list. Drafted out of Flowery Branch High School (Georgia), Hughes is listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds.

The righty has been known to show a 94-96 mph fastball early in games before settling in at 89-93 mph with some cut and sink. His low-80s slider is his second option, and Hughes also has an upper-70s curveball and a changeup.

A Georgia Tech recruit, some scouts aren't fond of Hughes' high-three-quarters delivery and long-arm action, which gives hitters a long look at his pitches.
