Harvey 'fine' after taking line drive off knee

NEW YORK -- Matt Harvey said he knew that everything was OK on Wednesday night after he was hit in the right knee by a line drive in the ninth inning of the Mets' 5-0 win over the Rockies.

A Thursday morning without swelling proved him right.

"No issues at all," the starting pitcher said. "I woke up, everything's fine."

Even when he was initially hit on a single by outfielder Charlie Blackmon, Harvey waved first baseman Ike Davis away as he approached the mound to check on the ace.

A trainer did come out, but after a brief discussion, Harvey stayed in to finish his first Major League complete game and shutout.

He iced his knee before he left Citi Field on Wednesday and wore a bruise pad throughout the night.

"I knew it hit him good," New York manager Terry Collins said after Wednesday's win. "I knew it hit him good. He said, 'I'm fine.'"

After the game, the training staff told him the same thing.

"They said he was fine," Collins said. "It's going to be a bruise, but he'll be OK."
