Desmond crushes 477-foot home run

Nats shortstop hits 8th-longest tater of season vs. Giants

SAN FRANCISCO - Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond showed how much power he had on Saturday against the Giants.

In the second inning of Saturday night's 12-6 loss to the Giants, Desmond swung at Jake Peavey's first pitch and hit a monster home run over the left-center-field wall. The ball landed near the top of the bleachers at AT&T Park, projected by Statcast™ to be 477 feet away, making it the eighth-longest homer of the year.

It was Desmond's 15th homer of the season and gave Washington a 2-0 lead.
